General Information


Eligibility

We will be accepting both collegiate and amateur competitors. No Pros or Pro/Am allowed.

Mixed Proficiency

Mixed Proficiency events will be allowed at the Newcomer, Bronze, and Silver levels only.

Registration

  • Registration will open Saturday, September 29th, and will close at 11:59 PM CST on Monday, October 8th.
  • Registration fee is $30 to be paid on the day of the competition by cash or check. Locations of nearby ATMs are included in our "Campus Information" section of this website.
  • Rules/Honor Code
    • For each dance style and level, you may only enter as an Amateur, Collegiate, or Mixed Pro competitor. The system may allow you to register as more than one of these categories for the same event, but it will not be allowed on the day of the competition. For example, you may not enter as Collegiate Bronze American Waltz and Mixed Proficiency Bronze American Waltz. We will review entries and ask competitors to scratch if they are signed up for more than one category.
  • Open Levels - There will be Novice, Pre-Champ, and Championship levels available for Open.
  • Last-minute changes will be allowed from 7:00 PM CST on Friday, October 12th until 9:00 AM CST on Saturday, October 13th, in person only.

Spectator Fees

Any non-competitors may enter free of charge as long as they sign a waiver through the Dedman Athletic Center.

All competitors and spectators must sign and turn in this waiver upon entry to the gym.

Costume Policy

Costumes are prohibited at Newcomer level, allowed at Bronze level, and required at Silver through Open levels.

Judges




Shorena Gachechiladze




Shorena Gachechiladze is originally from Georgia, formerly USSR, and her journey into the dance world started at the age of 5. It was her passion and she diligently dedicated countless miles to the dance floor. It was not until 7 years later that she would find her one and only dance partner, Gocha Chertkoev. In Georgia, they claimed the title of seven-time Latin standard and TEN Dance Undefeated Champions. Their partnership then moved from Georgia to the United States. Within a few years of their arrival to the US, Gocha and Shorena were the first "rookie" couple in history to ever place in the top three in a national professional competition. They represented the United States in the Dancesport World Championships and went on to win many North American Championships and competitions. Shorena's notoriety has also led her to appear in many television dance shows including guest judging on Dancing With the Stars Georgia. At the present, Shorena and Gocha own and operate GS Ballroom Center of Dance in Dallas. 





Michelle Hafle



Michelle Hafle is a professional International Latin American dancer, instructor, and owner of Studio 22. She and her partner, Sergey Korshunov, are ranked three-time U.S. Professional Rising Star Latin Finalists and ranked three-time British Open Rising Star Quarterfinalists. In 2012 she appeared on Dancing with the Stars performing a special project with Cheryl Burke. she has worked extensively with Emmitt Smith, Mark Cuban, and Michael Irvin during their appearances on the show. 





Ryan Lewis



Ryan Lewis has been training as a ballroom competitor for 20+ years. He began as a 10-dancer and went on to specialize in the Latin discipline. He is currently competing Professionally in American Rhythm. He splits his time between competing professionally and training his team of couples and youth at his studio, DanceSport Training Center. A center dedicated solely to the development and enrichment of youth and competitive dancers. His results include US Amateur Finalist, US Professional Rising Star Finalist, and Blackpool Rising Star Semi-Finalist.





Vince Duhon

Vince Duhon is a second generation dancer. Growing up in his parents' studios, he enjoyed going to parties and dancing and entertaining all the guests. Vince as a professional competitor has gained many accolades including Rising Star American Rhythm National Champion, Ohio Star Ball Champion, Emerald Ball Champion, Galaxy Champion, Triple Crown Champion, Nevada Star Ball Champion, and Holiday Dance Classic Champion. Vince has traveled and competed professionally all over the world and entertained audiences throughout Canada, the United States, and South America. Now teaching in Dallas, TX and competing with his students, he has won multiple Top Teacher and Top Studio awards at competitions across the country while several of his students have also earned top rankings under his instruction.





Ia Iashvili

Ia Iashvili was born in the country of Georgia, formerly Soviet Union. She has been studying International Style Standard and Latin Dance since she was 6 years old. Ia has competed in various dance competitions throughout the USSR winning numerous amateur championships. In 1986 she turned professional and started teaching kids until she came to the United States where she pursued her passion for dance and has been teaching in the Dallas Metroplex area for over 15 years. Ia is a current NADTA Dance Sport Adjudicator with Licentiate Degree in Standard, Latin, American Smooth and American Rhythm. She is a Triple Crown Latin Dancesport Champion 200, Sapphire Dancesport Latin Championship Runner Up 1999, Lone Star Dancesport Latin Championship Runner Up 1997, Ohio Star Ball Rising Star Latin Quarter Finalist 1998, and Top 48 in the World Open Rising Star Dancesport Latin Championship 200.

After-Competition Event (Optional)


One of our coaches, Vince Duhon, is hosting a ballroom masquerade ball at his studio the night of the competition. All Ballroom Blitz competitors will receive a discounted entry fee of $10.
